I love knitting and crochet also. I wrote about the part I played in the "Knit a Poem" for the Poetry's Society's Centenary Celebrations.This article was published last July 2010 in the Simply Knitting magazine.
My 12 inch square is a pink R with a pale yellow background. I have yet to see the completed poem. It measures 43ft x 30ft and took more than 1000 knitters and crocheters a year to complete. It gets put on show at poetry events around the country. It is usually kept on display at the British Library in London.
